Blades of Turf Creating Safer Playground Surfaces with SoftLawn® Playground Turf

Safety is always the number one concern for community playgrounds. Selecting the proper equipment is a start. Selecting the right surface is often a decision that is just as mission-critical.

Blades of Turf was approached by Three Rivers Community Action of Faribault, Minnesota for a playground project. The board wanted low-maintenance, safe, artificial grass. The SoftLawn® Playground turf artificial grass solution proposed by Blades of Turf proved to be the perfect solution.

Most injuries on playgrounds are the result of a fall on surfaces that are abrasive, hard, or just plain unsafe. Our playground turf is fully ADA/ABA compliant and consistent with all U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission requirements.

Blades of Turf Owner Grady Strand and his team enjoyed designing and installing 4500 square feet of SoftLawn® Playground turf for this project. "We really like playground projects, complete with fall zones and exceptional HIC ratings with all components being biodegradable, recyclable and lead-free," said Grady. "Like most antimicrobial products, our playground surfaces do not support stain or odor causing bacteria, mold, or mildew. But I think the best part is not having to worry about exposure or contact with harsh chemicals found in the pesticides and fertilizers used to treat regular grass."

In conjunction with the Blades of Turf SoftLawn® Playground turf surface the company offers an infill product that combines the shock absorption performance of crumb rubber and the ballast performance of raw sand, while minimizing health and environmental concerns and reducing surface temperatures by 20° – 30° F.
